The Right Way to Wear a Thong!

The other day I was in the mall and to my dismay I noticed a young girl with low rise jeans and a high rise thong. Am I missing something here? Is this the new look for the ladies? Has the female youth captured the male hip hop sagging prison trend of exposure and added a bit of raunchiness? Now, I do admit to be square on some things, but, someone should tell the youth (and not so young) that thongs are not to be seen in public (unless you're the daring type to expose it on the beach!) In this case, it's hip to be square!

So, this sparked my curiosity of when the popular thong reached western civilization. Where did it originate? When the thong was first introduced and why something so uncomfortable appeals to modern day women?

Among historians, it is believed that the thong reached the US around the 1930's. Even though this form of clothing was originated in Africa as a lion's cloth worn only by men, the US picked up the swimsuit trend from Brazil, where Brazilians openly wore thongs on beaches.

The very first thong worn as an undergarment was the jock strap in 1874. This idea of protecting the male genitalia was derived from the lion's cloth. In 1974, the thong was reintroduced as an undergarment for women by fashion designer Rudi Gernreich and since has grown in popularity among women throughout decades.

A thong has many great uses as an undergarment. For starters, no panty lines! There is no bigger fashion no-no than panty lines. You can be draped in Dolce & Gabanna from head to toe, but if panty lines show you will look as cheap as Wrangler jeans. By the way, there are low rise thongs made specifically for low rise jeans and NO, it is not cute to walk around with your thong exposed unless it's a swimsuit garment.

No one cheek exposure. Ladies, you know what I'm talking about. How uncomfortable is it to walk around with panties rising and it's usually only a cheek at a time. Thongs are the end to all this. With both cheeks fully exposed, there is nothing left to worry about.

As a sweet sixteen party favor, a teenager in Ohio passed pink thongs to her friends. Is this appropriate for teenagers? Should the mother be blamed for allowing this gift as a favor? What is a good age for teens to wear this type of undergarment? This is a common debate among mothers and teens. Many teenagers are now wearing thongs as early as 13 years old. Some teens feel pressure to keep up with their peers and some teens wear it just to feel more grown up. Should this piece of lingerie be tolerated among our youth?

Well, I don't have teenagers but I think it is important to know why the teen wants to wear a thong. If it's to hide panty lines in some outfits, then maybe it's okay. If she wants to feel more grown up, then give her the electric bill to pay so she can see what it's really like to be ‘all grown up'. Why should a thong make her any more ‘adultish' than what she really is?

If you are having this issue with your teen and you think she's too young for a thong, some say let her wear it. The only reason she wants to wear it is because it's something you don't want her to do. Once she puts it on, the thrill is gone.
